Forensic Science
Technology has created a platform zone for unity, friendship, and ways of enforcing lasting laws. Criminals and criminal activities were committed by illiterate individuals in the past decades. However, the current world has led to an increase in crime through technology where educated people take advantage of the internet to fraud personal and institutional accounts. In Kenya, there have been various reported cases of fraud through hacking into banks and revenue agency databases where a lot of funds are stolen in the dark sides of the internet. The major confusion that everyone gets is the use of technology in investigations and performance of crime. When the same channel is the way to committing a crime and the way to investigate crime, high chances of criminals walking free are experienced. The government forensic team ensures that every information and all websites visited by Kenyan internet users are under watch. The use of technology has fueled the rate of crime rates in many countries, Kenya being among the list. The mode of investigating crime and other unlawful activities takes a course through forensic science where the government uses certain measures in collecting evidence. The application of forensic science must be applied under strong surveillance by the government to prevent unleashing personal details and confidence. Despite the government being vigilant on monitoring crime in Kenya, most of the cyber café users fail to follow set measures on the use of public computers in accessing personal accounts. The accounts must not be financial related but even social sites can be used by hackers in collecting personal information that can lead to a commitment of a crime.
Crime Rate in Kenya
Crime rates in Kenya have concentrated in the cities of Mombasa Nairobi, Kisumu, the coastal beach resorts, and Nakuru. Kenya has a high rate of unemployment that stands at 11% on average for the periods of 2014 through 2017. The lack of sources of income for the public leads to an increased crime where graduates in information technology (IT) and Computer Science form cartels of penetrating into systems for personal gain. According to the Kenyan police statements released to the public, police officers are killed in every terror attack within the country. The cybercrime committed in Kenya range from sexual offenses to violent crimes. The use of the internet has enabled people to interact with strangers and plan for physical meetings. Such kind of hooking up through the internet aided by technology creates a platform for disguising identity. Many have been victims where they end up meeting older or poor individuals while the posted pictures and profiles on the internet indicate the different version of the real individuals. Since such planned meetings are at personal levels with each party having expectations for a better deal, coning and robbery can be conducted in silence and the news come out after the crime has been committed and suspects escaped. Upon the recent times when the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) was hacked and lost billions, the Kenyan government has been on high alert in following and preventing cybercrime.
